This very early recording by tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander finds the 24-year-old holding his own with trumpeter John Swana, pianist Richard Wyands, bassist Peter Washington, and drummer Kenny Washington. In fact, Alexander usually takes solo honors. The material (which includes two of his basic originals) is perfect for blowing and highlighted by "The Moving Blues," "Swedish Schnapps," "Wives and Lovers," and "In the Still of the Night." Alexander and Swana make for a mutually inspiring team and plenty of heat is generated during this high-quality hard bop date. ~ Scott Yanow
